Driving to Kyrenia yourself with a rental car

Once the tires of your flights to Kyrenia touch tarmac at Ercan Airport, it is great know that you will shortly be at your destination with minimum hassle. Once you have your luggage by your side and your car keys in hand it is time to venture through North Cyprus to your awaiting choice of hotel accommodation.

If you have driven abroad before, North Cyprus will be a lot easier as you will be driving on the left hand side of the road, just like back home. With signs written in both English and Turkish you will be able to follow your route effortlessly to your hotel in Kyrenia Cyprus.

Driving to Kyrenia hotels may not be best following the most obvious route on the map. For the easiest way to arrive at Girne, as Turkish Cypriots call Kyrenia, this step by step route should be followed:

Driving Directions from Ercan Airport to Kyrenia

1. Exit Ercan International Airport via the main exit.
2. Go straight ahead at the first roundabout you reach.
3. Just past the petrol station, which should be on your right, is another roundabout. Take the left hand exit that should be signed posted for Girne / Kyrenia.
4. Follow this road for approximately 15 minutes.
5. You should now have entered a part of town over run by car dealerships. To check, make sure there is an Opel showroom on your left and a Hyundai showroom on your right.
6. Continue on passing a football stadium on your right.
7. At the next roundabout, by the Volkswagen showroom, take the right exit heading for the mountains and the north.
8. Follow this road through the winding countryside and you will reach Kyrenia.

The road will lead you straight to the city centre and the beautiful harbour area. If you are not staying in the centre town hotels it is advisable to get directions from the main roundabout just outside Kyrenia.
